Makeup Trick From a Busy Mom and a GIVEAWAY

I have a confession to make. Since I've become a mom, I really have become quite lazy in the makeup department. Even though I've never been known to wear excessive amounts of makeup, I have no problem with "painting the barn" once in a while! That said, I still think less is more. I've basically always had this mindset and I'll let you in on a little secret that fashionistas may cringe at! Since I tend to be simplistic in my efforts, I would actually use lipstick not only on my lips but as my eyeshadow as well! Is that crazy? I've actually never told anyone that I would use lipstick as eye shadow but it's the truth! I liked how my it would match my lips and I wouldn't have to mess with trying to find an eye shadow that matched my lipstick. Enter Paula Dorf Cosmetics. This line is a high quality collection of brushes and color cosmetics. And guess what? Their Ecstasy makeup is quite the multitasker that I have now replaced my normal lipstick with! This stick is created to be used on your lips, cheeks and eyes!
No more guilty feeling that I am committing some sort of fashion sin! This product is creamy and natural looking and can be worn without feeling like your standing out. This particular shade works perfect for me personally and again I love how my lipstick and eyeshadow (and now blush) can all be perfectly matching. Love it. It can fit easily in a purse if needed on the go. I hate clutter in my bathroom so having one item rather than a huge array of makeup products everywhere makes mornings run smooth.

With each purchase, you will receive the gift of a mini No Color Glimmer, a gorgeously soft, lightweight powder to complete your look! The perfect accent to Ecstasy.

A Homeschool Phys Ed Idea: Rock Climbing

Homeschoolers! If you are looking for something fun and challenging to do in the Roanoke Area why not try your hand at Rock Climbing? The River Rock located in Roanoke, VA has opened their facilities to homeschoolers the FIRST FRIDAY of the MONTH during the school year. Many Rock Climbing gyms are not child friendly but River Rock is. Even children as young as five years old can climb on the homeschool days!

Here, my youngest has no fear
free climbing these rocks!

Before you arrive, be sure to fill out The River Rock Waiver
online. This can be filled out on site but if you are bringing kids that are not your own, the parent must fill out the waiver online before you arrive, this is essential. Another thing to know when planning your visit is the amount of adults required to watch the children. You will need to have one adult for every three climbers ages 5-13. Children must be five years old to climb. If you have children under that age they are not allowed in the climbing areas and must have one on one supervision (someone other than who is watching the children climbing). So, if you have little ones, be sure to have an extra adult to watch them! This is important because once you go through the tour of the facility you are basically on your own! You are responsible to watch and attach your children to the ropes. There are obviously workers there to help the children with the ropes that don't work automatically but only a few so you need to be sure you can "spot" your children the whole time you are there.

I'm glad my husband was able to come that day because it was much easier having two of us watching our three kids ages eight and under. Honestly, I think it would have been overwhelming the first time with just me. Now that they are comfortable with climbing and "know the ropes" I would take them alone in a heartbeat but not for the first time.

And yes, adults can climb too!

The Homeschool First Friday has a discounted rate of only $10. You can climb anytime from 10am - 3pm that day and the price includes gear rental, (which is normally an extra cost). It is recommended to allot yourself at least two hours to climb. You'll receive about half an hour instructional tour where you will learn how to attach and detach yourself (or your child) to the auto-belay. Once you receive a tour of the facility, go over the rules and master the auto-belay test you are on your own! There are two main sections to the gym. One has walls that you can climb where you don't need to be harnessed in. These walls may appear easy at first but not so! Some are quite tricky and angled in a way that is quite challenging. Then there are the walls with the belays. This was the fun part. At first the kids were hesitant. Then, after a bit, my six year old was all over the place! He was climbing like a pro. It was so fun watching him climb to the top, give the monkey a high five and let the belay slowly bring him down. It was cute.

At first my youngest only wanted to climb the walls without the harness. Then, once she saw her dad and brothers try she finally got harnessed in! There also was another girl her age there climbing the wall like a champ so I think that helped her gain some courage! After a bit she was going about halfway up and popping down by herself with no fear! I liked seeing her gain confidence. My other son enjoyed mostly the free  climbing. He climbed to the top and was so proud of himself each time. It was a great confidence booster for him since the larger walls were too intimidating for him. He loved climbing to the top seeing how fast he could go each time. It was great seeing how proud he was when he made it to the top!

There are still a few Homeschool first Friday's planned for this year, so check out The River Rock.

Prevent Hair Loss

Recently, I had the opportunity to try Pura d'or hair products specially formulated to prevent hair loss. Hair loss is not a fun topic. It's one of those subjects we try to avoid in everyday conversation. There are many causes to this unfortunate occurrence, some that can be prevented, others that cannot. Nutrition can play a large part in hair loss both in younger and older adults. The first time I visited a third world country I was there for several months. The food I was given was the best that the people could give me, but void in nutrients causing many health issues, including excessive hair loss. I came back and people would just look at me and say, "what happened to your hair?" My beautiful, thick hair was thin, unhealthy and brittle. Fortunately, I was able to regain good health and once my overall health was revived, my hair thickened and became healthy once again.

In addition to maintaining overall good health, I would recommend using natural ingredients to help prevent hair loss whether you already struggle with it or you simple want to take proactive measures.

Pura d'or offers a line of hair and body care products which uses argon oil.
It contains12 DHT Blockers, creates thicker hair and prevents from further hair loss.

Recently, I received the following products from pura d'or:

~ Premium Organic Argan Oil Based Hair Loss Prevention Shampoo.

~ Premium Organic Argan Oil Based Conditioner, Lavender Vanilla.

~ Pure and Organic Argan Oil

MY EXPERIENCE WITH PURA D'OR

I love the scent of these hair care products, especially the lavender vanilla conditioner! Since these products include only natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals I feel good about using them on my hair. I am very particular about my hair care in that I don't use dyes or harsh products on my hair anymore. I even have become picky about which shampoos and conditioners I use. Honestly, I would simply buy the cheapest brand I could find until I realized that those brands weren't healthy for my hair. Now I am willing to pay a little more for my shampoo and conditioner and have seen a difference! Now that I have been introduced to pura d'or, I'm hooked. It has ingredients I can feel good about, they have a great organic smell to them, and make my hair feel healthy and clean after using them!

The Beginner's Bible: Come Celebrate Easter, Sticker and Activity Book {Review}

The Beginner's Bible has now released a fun filled Sticker and Activity book for your little one to enjoy this spring called Come Celebrate Easter. This 16-page activity book is colorful and engaging for children in preschool through first grade. In the center of the book is a sticker page with over fifty reusable stickers to be used throughout the activities. The pages are a glossy material so the stickers can be used over and over again, if desired. The book includes coloring pages, a word search, handwriting practice and puzzles.

The book begins by explaining who Jesus is and continues with the story of Palm Sunday going through the Holy Week including the Crucifixion, Resurrection and finally His Ascension to heaven. For children already familar with these events, this book is a great reinforcement to remind them of what Jesus did for them! On the other hand, this would also be an excellent resource to share this message with young children who have not yet been exposed to the Biblical details of the Easter story.

It is short and easy to teach from. I could see parents using this to teach their little ones about Easter for the first time. I could see homeschoolers using this as a lesson in  preperation for Easter and I could see Sunday School teachers or outreach ministries getting one for their groups and going through it together!

Personally, I plan on giving this to one of my little ones Easter morning for them to work on either during the church service or while we are having our Easter brunch! My kids love having books like this to keep them busy during those times.

Roadmap Genesis Film {Review and Giveaway}

What do you think of when I say the word,
                       Genesis?

Beginning?
A book of the Bible?
A part of the Torah?

Whether it's a familiar term or not, filmmaker and rabbi, Nolan Lebovitz presents Roadmap Genesis, a documentary showcasing how the book of Genesis truly is a road map that is relevant and needed in our society today to help guide, teach and produce strong family values. Lebovitz interviews those of the Jewish faith as well as Christian, to make his case for the book of Genesis. I personally enjoyed hearing from Mike Huckabee. The more I heard him speak about family values, Biblical principles and especially his support for the nation of Israel, the more excited I became that he might be a presidential candidate. I know that he hasn't made it official yet but after learning more about him through his interviews in this documentary, I'm leaning more and more towards placing my support behind him, if he runs. Another personal favorite of mine interviewed was Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis. I appreciate this man's heart to teach about Creation and the ministry he has. Others interviews include Rabbi David Wolpe, Alan Dershowitz and Erick Stakelbeck.

What I Liked

Well, this documentary was presented by an experienced filmmaker, and you can tell. I liked his quirky style and random clips and scenes inserted throughout the film to bring some humor to the table. I appreciated his passion for the book of Genesis and his desire for our country to grab a hold of depth and richness found in the historical accounts of our patriarchs of the faith.

Other Thoughts

Presently, my third grader is studying Genesis in his history lessons along side Ancient Egypt. He has gained so much knowledge of this book of the Bible through these lessons and it has given him a great foundation. Genesis is the foundation and an important tool, road map, and guidebook to begin with. I appreciate the message of this documentary even though as a Christian I don't stop teaching my children at the end of Genesis or even at the end of the Old Testament.
I wonder though, is Lebovitz going to stop at Genesis or will there be more to come? Maybe a documentary about the book of Exodus? Hmmm...
